Weekend Review.

I cannot believe that this past weekend was the first weekend of Spring and it was so chilly out. Although the sun was shining, that was the only time we were able to go out and enjoy the weekend without feeling extremely cold.

Spring, where are you? We have never been more ready for you.

Dominic had Friday off, which we always love. I slept in, and when I finally woke up at 11:30am, we had coffee, and blueberry pancakes and relaxed all morning. We had big plans to go to the mall to do a little Easter shopping, but instead, we stayed in and had a lazy day.We had a lost marathon (we’re OBSESSED!). It was great. Around dinner time, my dad came over, we ordered pizza, he stayed for a bit and then we continued our marathon.

Oh and Olivia in the refrigerator:

We started our morning the same; breakfast, coffee, Lost (I’m so serious when I say we’re hooked). Dominic got ready for work, and Olivia and I got ready to go out with my sister. We went to Wal-Mart, and then to…you guessed it. THE MALL. If it’s any consolation, we went to a different mall this time, and with a purpose. There’s a bigger H&M there, and I really wanted to get her a few things that I had seen on their site (H&M, WHEN are you going to let me online shop?!), but the line was literally out. the. door. and we were like hellllllllllllll no, so we walked around, visited the Disney store (Olivia didn’t want to leave, and I was so proud), a few other baby stores, and we even took Olivia on the carousel. I thought she was gonna freak, but she was actually quite calm. We stopped at one more store, where she was mesmerized by the jewelry, and then we left.

Also, baby toms? I can’t take how cute she looks in them.

20130323_144045 20130323_153838 20130323_153846 20130323_160048 20130323_160055 20130323_160226 DSC02596 DSC02598 DSC02600 DSC02605 20130323_175915

Olivia and I went with my dad to wash his blankets at the laundromat, and she was running around, tiring herself out. By the time we got home, it was 9:30 and she was out in ten minutes. My favorite.

On Sunday, Olivia and I woke up early to meet up with the girls. We had two different appointments to look at bridesmaid dresses, and I was so excited! The first place we went to was a dud. It was shady, rude, and way too money hungry. We regrouped, and went to the place for the second appointment. Muchhhhh better. Our consultant was polite, friendly, and so much more fun. We found the PERFECT dress within a half hour. Here is my first piece of wedding advice on this blog, although it’s more of an ‘ism’. A weddingism. Anyway, here is goes: You will most likely walk in with a list of things you want, and absolutely don’t want, and you will walk out with something totally different, and with at least one thing that was on your ‘absolutely do not want’ list. In my case, I walked out with everything I said I didn’t want, and I am so happy. The dress is perfect for each girl, it wasn’t expensive, and they ALL love it (which is sometimes, the hardest part). After we did measurements, we parted ways and My sister, Olivia, and one of our bffs, Michelle, and I went to get lunch. I love catching up with Michelle because we don’t get to see her often, and we every time we’re together, we do nothing but laugh.

Afterward, I picked up Dominic, we went to the

20130324_134122 20130324_125552 20130324_121701

Afterward, I picked up Dominic and we ran to the laundromat to wash our blankets. I totally forgot that his best friend (and best man, and Olivia’s God Father) and his girlfriend were coming to spend the night and I wanted the blankets to be nice and fresh.

I wasn’t feeling so hot so when we got home, I fell asleep on the couch for almost two hours. Seriously, literally just knocked out on the couch with my coat and boots still on. His parents had stopped by and I felt terrible that they were there to see us, and I fell asleep. They had just gotten back from a little vacation to Wisconsin and brought Olivia back two pairs of baby converse, and a pair of Minnetonka mocs! They are so cute on her.

20130324_195633 IMG_20130324_201457

Around 9:30, David and Trisha finally got here and we let Olivia stay up so that she can see him. We don’t get to see them often so we try to make the most of the time we have together when they’re here.

I honestly thought that she was going to be shy, but she ran right up to him and they were playing and laughing and kissing. Seeing them together, and how he is with her, just solidifies even more that we made the right decision in making him her God Father.

Side note- after I took these pictures, my camera died and I cannot find my camera charger anywhere! I’m already going through withdrawls and actually plan on going to by a new charger this afternoon.DSC02611 DSC02614 DSC02618

After Olivia finally went to bed, the four of us stayed up and talked, laughed, reminisced, with our bloody marys in hand.

It was such a nice way to end the weekend, and I am hoping for a great week!

Weekend Review- The Cell Phone Edition.

This is a nice little forewarning to let you know that 95% of these pictures are taken off my Galaxy S3 and as much as it’s a good camera for a phone, the pictures don’t really look the prettiest on a blog post.

Happy Monday!

Friday was probably our laziest day. I don’t think we left the house once. I know it’s probably not the best thing to admit, but I am a total homebody. I will choose to stay at home in my pjs with my daughter and Dominic over almost anything else. Sad, but true. Dominic would probably say the same thing. I guess we really just love each other’s company :) Although Dominic worked all night every night this weekend, Olivia took his spot and her and I snuggled on the couch all night. We practiced animal sounds and every time I said ‘ruff ruff ruff’ she would laugh hysterically. I love that she thinks I’m so hilarious.

20130222_181121 20130222_18051020130222_180439

I ended my night with a little ice cream sundae. Yes, those are candy cane sprinkles. I love sprinkles.

Olivia had a hard time sleeping and finally at 3am, we decided to just bring her in our bed.

(That’s her standing in the crib screaming “mamaaaaa…..dadaaaa….” And also, the time isn’t right.)

After she came in our bed, we all got some pretty good sleep and when we woke up, we just laid around and soaked in the sun that was coming in through our blinds. A nice and lazy morning.

Like I said before, one of the only good things about Dominic working late is that we get to wake up to him in the morning. The second? Taking Olivia downstairs and making us blueberry pancakes.

Blueberry pancakes make us do crazy things………like dance and make funny faces…naked, of course.

DSC01176 DSC01186 DSC01189 DSC01200 DSC01218 DSC01224 IMG_20130223_104948IMG_20130224_211929

Then Dominic got ready for work, and my Sister and my Dad came over, and we went to the mall. We seriously go to the mall so much, but it’s so cold out that it’s really all we can do, if we wanna get out of the house. Spring, we are ready for you.

Olivia threw her first Penny in the water fountain, she was so proud of herself.IMG_20130223_195500 20130223_143047 20130223_143144 20130223_143317 20130223_160655 20130223_160944

We stopped by my grandparents house for a little while, and when we got home I was supposed to give her a bath but she was a little fussy so we cuddled a little, and then she was passed out cold.

I ended my night with a little mom time. Tea, the Wedding Date, a few Girl Scout cookies, and some blog stuff.

I received free tickets a few weeks ago for a Bridal Expo in O’hare. I went to one a few years ago just for fun, and I didn’t really remember it because I wasn’t really thinking about getting married. But this time around, we went there with a purpose: wedding invitation ideas, flowers, and to try desserts….duh.. Oh and there was a fashion show, which was a nice bonus. I had to take Olivia with me because Dominic had to work, but I didn’t mind. Although I honestly thought she was gonna be a little fidget-y and want to walk, (she was in the bjorn because it was too crowded for anything else) she was so good. She got a little fussy toward the end, but that was because it was wayyyy past her nap time and she ended up falling asleep in my arms during the fashion show.

IMG_20130224_133818 IMG_20130224_134005 20130224_122013 DSC01229 DSC01230(The bathroom was SO pretty! How gorgeous are those walls?! And there were TVs in the mirrors!)

We stopped at one of my fave restaurants in Oak Park, The Ale House, and got turkey burgers before going home. We weren’t home for more than 5 minutes before deciding to go with Dominic’s parents to Target (how could we say no to Target?!) and for a quick little trip to Cold Stone to visit my sister.

(best face ever? so far, yes.)

We ended our Sunday with a nice bath, a suave hair-do, milk for baby and cup of sleepy-time tea for mama.

DSC01245 DSC01252 DSC01253

I ended my night by picking out Olivia’s flower girl dress, and shoes (I’m in LOVE!) and next weekend we are hopefully going to pick out the bridesmaids dresses! I swear I get more and more excited every day; I cannot wait to marry Dominic.

I hope everyone had a fun weekend!

Weekend Review.

I can’t believe it’s already Monday!

I feel so exhausted after this weekend but in all honesty, we didn’t even do too much. You know that tired feeling after being in the car for so long? Well, I was in a car a lot this weekend, so I am taking this Monday nice and slow. Starting with a nice cup of tea and a vitamin.

Here’s what we did this weekend:

Dominic drives our car a lot more than I do, so he notices things that I really wouldn’t by driving the car every once in a while to make a quick trip to the grocery store. He explained that he thinks something is wrong with the transmission, so we woke up super early to make a 7 am appointment about a half hour away. It was easier to take Olivia in her pajamas so she could be comfortable because I knew she was going to fall right back asleep. I don’t like to wake up early, but once I’m actually up and out being productive, I actually prefer it. The best part about taking our car to the car dealership is that it’s about 5 minutes from Einstein Bros. Bagels. The best bagels ever. You should go check it out. Like, right now.

We introduced Olivia to this bagel heaven and she is definitely a fan. I always either get the blueberry or cranberry, this time I went with the cranberry and it was delicious as always.

2013-02-17 21.01.05

^Checking out what car she’s gonna drive first.

After we left the bagel shop, we drove all the way home just to realize that we FORGOT to take our house key before leaving the car at the dealership. Dominic’s dad was the only one with one of our spare keys that we could get a hold of and we had to drive to his work to get his house key, then to his parent’s house to get our actual key, and then our house. It was a long morning but Olivia and I both got our beauty sleep so we didn’t mind too much.

Once we finally got home, we ate lunch and then found ourselves outside again. It was too sunny and nice to not go for a little walk. Olivia loves to be outside and it makes me so excited for it to be nice enough to stay outside longer than 20 minutes.

DSC00715 DSC00719 DSC00748 DSC00722 DSC00723 DSC00725

Don’t get me wrong, I love our little townhouse, but now that we have a walking girl, it’s a little scary that it’s on a busy street. I always walk to one of the side streets to let her play because I just get a little too nervous.

Dominic had to work the night so we stayed in and one of my girl friends came over. She has been super busy lately so it was nice to finally hang out and catch up.

She’s a teacher and it was pajama day, so she came over in her pjs. It was only natural that we participated.

I have a really tight circle of besties. There are 6 of us and I am so thankful for the friendship we have. More importantly, I love how much they all love Olivia and they are always so good to her. We are really lucky!

On Friday night while Dominic was at work, he got a call saying that our car was already ready to be picked up. So, Saturday morning we woke up, and went all the way back to the dealership. But not before lying around a bit:

And getting some more bagels….

DSC00760 DSC00765

Dominic got chocolate milk, and Olivia kept eyeing it…even though she had her own regular milk. This girl is no dummy, she knows what the good stuff is. We let her try it. The results were smiles and a brown ‘stache. (smiles not pictured)

DSC00770 DSC00771 DSC00773

We were welcomed home by my sister and my dad. My dad comes over on Saturdays and Mondays and sometimes Fridays. My sister comes more often because Olivia and I always want her here :) but my dad works so he comes when he can. It was a little colder so we went to the mall so we could at least get out of the house. They had some art-fair going on and some guy was playing music, which Olivia just ate up. She loves to dance.

20130216_150948 20130216_161344 2013-02-17 21.25.52 2013-02-17 20.58.09

And this is a really bad picture of the coat, but we bought her this little thing because it was 22 dollars (regularly 60!) and as soon as I laid my eyes on it, I knew it had to be ours. She looks so cute in this damn thing, and although she’s only going to be wearing it a few more weeks, I was more than happy with the purchase.

Olivia fell asleep on the way home. She was so exhausted from all that walking! She even slept a little bit more once we were actually back home so I took the time to catch up on some blogs, and Dominic cleaned the car. A little later in the evening I decided to start a DIY that I’m hoping to post about within the next week or so because it’s super cute!

Sunday Olivia and I woke up early again to meet up with Dominic’s mom, aunt, and 3 of my girlfriends for breakfast.

DSC00784 DSC00785 DSC00788 DSC00790

We met up so that we could talk about the wedding. The more I talk about it, the more excited I get. And then we went to go pick up my dress (!) We got there early so we all jumped in one car to go get coffee. (Not shown: Stef in the trunk of the jeep)

I tried on my dress for the first time since I picked it out and I must say, I was a little nervous. I didn’t think it was going to be as perfect as I remembered it to be, but it was. Aside from a few small alterations, I feel so pretty in it and I cannot wait to see what Dominic thinks of it. September cannot come fast enough.

Dominic’s parents came over for dinner and to hang out for a bit in the evening…

DSC00800 DSC00802 photo (4)

After they left, we had a mini dance party…I wish you could see this kid’s moves in person. They’re impressive.

DSC00804 DSC00807

And we ended our Sunday night with a little play and story time. I melt when Dominic reads to her, I love how she sits there and listens to him so intently. When I read to her, she’s usually crawling all over me, or just ignoring me all together…. what a daddy’s girl.

DSC00829 DSC00841 DSC00823 DSC00846

And that is her kissing her baby goodnight.

As chaotic as the weekend may have started, it sure did have a sweet ending.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Review.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

This weekend was so relaxing; filled with lots of lounging around, lots of food, and lots of family. Just what we needed.

Friday morning we finally got to sit down and meet with the caterer for our wedding! Although we weren’t able to try the foods just yet, it was very easy to choose the menu we wanted. It’s very simple, very neutral, and very very us. After all that talk about food, we decided to go out for breakfast. We live close to our town’s downtown area, which is actually pretty cute, and they have a really good breakfast palace called Blueberry Hill. I have been craving crepes, so that’s exactly what I had! They were delicious.

DSC00245 DSC00246 DSC00241DSC00249 DSC00252 DSC00256 DSC00258

The weather was so crappy. It was raining, then we got so much snow and so after breakfast, we just went home and lounged around.

Two other highlights from our Friday was that I got a call telling me that my dress was ready for pickup!! I can’t wait to go put it on again. The other highlight was this:

I obviously took this picture with my phone, hence the darkness, but this was a moment worth documenting. I have been trying to get Olivia to eat these pouches for such a long time, and I gave up for a while. Well, I decided that maybe the all-fruit ones were too sweet for her taste, so I bought her a sweet potato and apple one, and she liked it! She didn’t eat a lot of it, but she didn’t spit it out so that’s a sure sign that she doesn’t completely hate it. Looks like we’re finally making progress on her picky-ness.

On Saturday we headed up North for my younger cousin’s birthday party.

DSC00286 DSC00381DSC00382 DSC00383DSC00384

There was a 7 month old baby there, and this was the first time that Olivia has interacted with someone that was so much younger than her. She just kept petting her and saying “niiiiice” and “baby”.

………And then a couple minutes later I found her in the corner chugging this innocent little baby’s bottle of formula. I couldn’t believe her! I also couldn’t believe she  even liked it since she’s only had formula the first few days she was born. Our child, the bottle bandit.

While we were sitting around, it dawned on me that by the time we leave, it would be dark outside and I won’t be able to capture some of the beautiful snow-covered loveliness. So, right before the sun went down, I snuck out to snap a few shots.

DSC00357 DSC00359 DSC00362 DSC00363

I’m so glad that I went out there, and just stood in the silence, just me and my camera (and Dominic for a few minutes.)

Olivia LOVED being there. She was able to walk around the whole house without anyone telling her “No, don’t go over there.” “No, don’t play with that.” She just walked and walked and walked and everybody kept commenting on her energy. She just didn’t stop! It was nice to see her enjoying herself.

We ended up having an impromptu sleepover, spent all night talking, laughing and snacking. It was so nice to just get away and spend time with family that I don’t get to see as often because of our busy schedules, not to mention the 1 1/2 distance from each other.

We woke up pretty early Sunday(8:30), I made my famous breakfast pizza, we drank delicious coffee and then spent the rest of the morning on the couch watching cartoons and snuggling. Another monumental moment: Olivia was snuggling. It’s so hard for me to hold her anymore, let alone just lay on the couch and watch some ‘toons with her. Needless to say, I laid as still as possible, because I knew if I moved, she would move too. Here is documentation of said monumental moment:

Oh Olivia, you don’t even know that you make my heart melt daily.

Oh! And we finally got her to drink out of a juice box….apparently this was a weekend for monumental moments.

After a little bit more relaxing, we decided to head out, because on Sunday’s we have dinner with Dominic’s parents. Olivia didn’t want to leave and protested by staying at the top of the stairs:

She’s lucky she’s cute.

We love to go up to their house because it is so peaceful and quiet and more of a country feel. They have so much land, a cute/spacious house, and it’s just so welcoming. Hopefully when Dominic and I are ready to buy our first home in the next couple of years, we can be just as lucky.

Once we got home, we cleaned up the house, ate some dinner and Olivia got a bath. Our relaxing weekend ended with watching the Grammy’s and eating pretzels (Olivia’s new favorite snack)

I hope by now you realize that this is one of her favorite faces to make. We say “Olivia, say cheese!” And she will make a few variations of this face. Such a little ham.

I hope you all had a relaxing filled weekend, just like we did!

Weekend Review.

After the nice 55 degree weather we had on Tuesday and Wednesday (hello, Chicago!), it didn’t make it over 15 degrees on Thursday, and it stayed at a brisk 9 degrees all day on Friday. Because of the low temps, Olivia and I were cooped up in the house. So when it was 30 degrees on Saturday, and despite the surprising snowfall, our little trip to target felt like we were going to Disney World. Okay, okay, so maybe that is a bit dramatic, but we were pretty excited to get out of the house.

Like I mentioned before, it was pretty cold on Friday so we stayed in. It’s become a (really bad) tradition that we eat wings, and watch TLC’s Brideday. For those of you that don’t know, Bride-day is something that TLC does on Fridays where they play wedding shows all night. A guilty pleasure at it’s finest, at least now it is. So that’s what we did. And then at 11 at night, I had this disgusting craving for something sweet, mainly cake. So, I pulled up a recipe off of Pinterest (which led me to Babble) and made a three ingredient, one minute, mug cake. Man oh man, did it hit the spot. It was delicious and easy and as I was eating it, I couldn’t help but think of atleast ten different ways to tweak the recipe.

Whisk one egg, 1/4cup of powdered sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder in a mug, make sure it’s all mixed together really well, put it in the microwave for one minute and BOOM. Chocolate cake.

Next time, I think I’ll try adding a swirl of peanut butter, or nutella. Just for the extra flavor of course ;)

We obviously went to bed very happy people.

Dominic had Saturday morning off, which meant that I got to sleep in. When I woke up and came downstairs, I was welcomed with a huge smile from Olivia because her Daddy put down the alphabet mat that she received as a birthday gift, and she loved it.

20130202_102930-1 DSC00038 IMG_20130202_103903

I’m not sure why he made it into a wall like that, but I kind of like it.

And then we headed out. It FINALLY snowed! I have been waiting for this day to come. However, it was one of those ‘mom’ moments where you build up a certain dream in your head and plan it to go a certain way, ever have one of those? Well in this particular dream, Olivia loves the snow and wants to touch it and she’s laughing….but the reality…Well, this was the reality:

DSC00061edit DSC00072edit

Unimpressed baby was very unimpressed. Sigh. Maybe next time.

Then we went to target, our happy place.

DSC00078 20130202_142940

This was her first time at said happy place since her new found ability to walk. Although she’s pretty slow, with those short legs, it’s still fun to see her get into everything because it’s at her level.

And then the last thing that we did on our nice Saturday was putting together her toy box  She got it as a Christmas gift from my grandmother but it was on back-order for the longest, it finally came in last week and it is sooooooooo cute! My dad helped me put it together and afterward he put her inside. Should I have expected anything else?

20130202_183134edit DSC00107 DSC00109

We put all of her toys in it and the toy box is so big that it made it look like she had such a small amount of toys! It’s seriously so cute though and now Olivia has her own little corner in our living room.

Superbowl Sunday. An American Holiday. The only football-y thing Olivia has is a pink Chicago Bears jersey that she received for her birthday, so that’s what she wore.

DSC00124 DSC00145

(A little peek at her new little play corner)

I will admit, I am not a fan of football. I never have been. I really don’t even know how the game works. When I was in high school, I was a cheerleader, and when I would cheer at the football games, I really had no idea what I was cheering for, I just loved to cheer. How embarrasing. Anyway! In my opinion, the best thing about the Super Bowl is the food. While I completely FAILED to take an actual shot of the food, our spread wasn’t too bad. We had hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls, crescent roll pizzas, chili cheese dip, and I attempted another Pinterest recipe- Baked breaded mozzarella cubes. They didn’t come out good, and I was kind of upset because I had such high hopes for them. Oh well, I guess you can’t win ’em all. We also had meatball sandwiches, and donuts, and we were going to make pasta, and actually, I don’t know why we didn’t.

This is the only shot I took of the night, Olivia with her Grandparents:DSC00168

I am usually really good about snapping pictures all night but while the guys watched the football game, us ladies did wedding planning. We finally ordered our save the dates, set up an appointment to book the caterer, and browsed Pinterest for even more inspiration. In fact, the only time I even remotely looked at the TV was when Beyonce was performing. What. A. Woman. I really like Beyonce, I think she is such a positive role model and her performance was seriously amazing. And that Destiny’s Child reunion? Unreal! I think that was one of the best half time shows the Super Bowl has had in a while.

I’m curious to see whether Olivia picks up her daddy’s love for football, or her mama’s love for eating the football snacks.

What did you do for super bowl Sunday?
